PREMIERE : 22 & 23 March 2024
KVS BRUSSELS
11 SECONDS
In different quantitative studies, scientists have examined how much time visitors in museums spend. The average time spent with an artwork lies between 10 and 15 seconds.
In ’11 seconds’, Charlotte Bouckaert looks at 1 photograph with her audience for 1 hour, the duration of the performance. That photograph shows the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. A generic exterior view of the museum on a clear day, photographed from the opposite side of 5th Avenue.
'11 seconds' is an ode to art itself, too artists and to the laborious attempts to say something meaningful about art.

Etcetera: Charlotte De Somviele
'The theater and photography seem to be opposites. They embody a tension between life and death, stillness and movement, past and present. In 11 seconds, however, Charlotte Bouckaert closes the gap by extracting a performance from one snapshot. It's a nice gesture: at a time when everyone is so compulsive about recording everything, Bouckaert tries to free the image from the clutches of representation, to trace it back to a material experience.'
Pzazz: Pieter T'Jonck
'You have to hand it to Bouckaert: she makes the audience look at that one image with attention for an hour, and she raises a lot of questions'
Theater newspaper: Tuur Devens
'A photo stops time. Charlotte Bouckaert gives the photo back time in her performance. 11 seconds have become a fascinating search ritual for different ways of looking and experiencing.
Charlotte Bouckaert stretches the viewing time for one photo to fifty minutes. She entertains us with tidbits, she analyses details, asks art questions, seeks answers from artists and philosophers, projects translations of English quotes, from Bob Dylan over Gerhard Richter to dialogue fragments from films by Woody Allen. Very intriguing.'

In portraying the banal, Charlotte Bouckaert pays a tribute to the everyday things that surround us. Things may stand still, but in the image they move.
Live from her table at home she will activate a still life. Not a registration but a live act,
specifically made for this live stream

REVIEW
Tuur Devens 'I have rarely looked at my laptop screen so intensely for fifteen minutes. This was not a video registration, but a performance in which different art disciplines merged with video art.'
THE PHOTOGRAPHER LEFT,
HE TOLD THE TRUTH
One spectator at a time, enters a dark box in which the digital screen of the camera is mounted. The performance takes place outside the box.
Only when the viewer takes a picture, he can observe what is happening outside the box.
